Here are examples of the muster roll information which can be found on microfilm from the National Archives.    At the war's end, the U.S. government  collected and catalogued all the records, North and South, and clerks recorded each man's summarized muster roll information on file cards like these.  Information might include hospitalizations, leaves of absence, desertions and capture by the enemy.

Private Rucker was killed in the same battle which claimed the life of Confederate Gen. J.E.B.Stuart.  He is buried in  Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond, Virginia, in an unmarked grave.  The author had a headstone placed in "The Soldiers' Section" to honor his sacrifice.
